Connie and Dwight Waters do a wonderful job of directing the music for Smoky Mountain Methodist Church. They say: “Music provides everyone the opportunity to participate either by active involvement or just listening. What a gift the Lord has given us with music!”
Smoky Mountain Global Methodist Church is blessed with many talented musicians who enthusiastically celebrate the glory of God. We have singers such as Alan Cummings and Larry Campbell – who sings while playing the bagpipes. We hear beautiful guitar songs from Sue Urban and Dwight Waters; excellent piano music from Connie Waters and Hilda Chesney; lovely hammered dulcimer tunes from Richard Hilten accompanied by his wife Jeanie who plays guitar or banjo; we also have some fine violin players. Our church is blessed with many talented singers and musicians.
Come join the chorus and raise your voice or strum along with us! Everyone is welcome to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
The Bible instructs us to sing and praise the Lord: Psalm 98: 1,4,5 Sing to the Lord a new song, For He has done marvelous things; Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing.
“Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest; Heals the heart and makes it whole, Flows from Heaven to the soul.”
–Author unknown.
“It takes every aspect of worship put together to make up a proper service for God. Every part is important. We believe that music is a vital part of worship, not just because we love it, but because the Bible tells us to sing and be joyful. In 2 Chronicles 20:20-23 there is a story about a battle that is won just by the people singing praises to God. When Paul and Silas are in prison they sing loudly and the earth quakes, the chains fall off and the prison doors open. God works for us when we sing for Him. There is a Gospel song that says ‘When things are so bad that is doesn’t look like there is any way out that is when God wants to hear us sing.’”
